Why Silver?

Most silver dressings on the market today provide a barrier to post-operative exposure.  Silverlon® surgical dressings do much more than just protect the wound.  Silverlon® surgical dressings provide a sustained release of silver ions directly into the wound, attacking bacteria and fungi that may have been introduced during surgery.

Silverlon® surgical dressings are truly unique from other antimicrobial silver dressings:

Passive Delivery of Pure Ionic Silver
Most antimicrobial silver dressings available today fall into one of two categories:

  1. Impregnated Barrier Dressings—provide microbial barrier protection only and do not address bacteria seeded in the wound
  2. Particulate Metallic Silver Dressings—shed heavy metal contaminate into the wound which increases the wound’s bioburden load and may stain the tissue, obscuring visualization of the wound

Silverlon® Dressings
In the presence of moisture, silver ions disassociate from the metallic surface and diffuse into the wound. Absolutely no metal is released from the dressing. This passive approach to ion delivery causes no staining or damage to surrounding tissue.

Impregnated Dressings
In impregnated dressings, the silver is limited and trapped within the dressing, making them ineffective at fighting seeded bacteria beneath the suture line.

Particulate Metallic Dressings
In particulate metallic silver dressings, metal particles are deposited directly into the wound which increases the wound’s bioburden load and may stain surrounding tissue.

Permanently Plated Metallic Surface

Silverlon Surface

Amplified

Through a proprietary process, each nylon strand is autocatalytically plated with 1 micros of 99.9% pure metallic silver.

Go to Work Immediately to Attack Seeded Bacteria

Silverlon® dressings go to work immediately, providing a sustained release of silver ions above the level necessary to eradicate all known infection-causing bacteria in as little as 30 minutes after application.  With no bacteria present, healing can begin.

Continuous Antimicrobial Protection
Silverlon’s® permanent silver plated surface provides a continuous, long-term antimicrobial barrier against all known bacteria and fungi, as well as active delivery of silver ions directly into the wound, killing any seeded microbes.

With hydration, silver ions are continuously released until the dressing is removed.

Reported Reduction in Incision Pain
The Silverlon® conductive surface repolarizes the nerve nociceptor, resulting in reduced pain and inflammation and enhanced epithelial migration.

Silverlon’s® plated metallic silver surface is highly conductive. Overlapping the wound by 2cm of periwound skin reestablishes near normal TEP.
